Mia Nilo, CARES Program Manager

Phone: 5186900491 ext. 029

Mia Nilo joins NYSCAA after professional internships at NASA and the Department of State, plus a career doing freelance copy-writing, editing, and multimedia content creation all across the internet. With a background in international policy analysis, public affairs, human rights law, and international development project management, Mia decided to refocus on domestic policy and engage with local efforts to address racial equity and poverty in New York State where she has lived for the past five years. She cut her teeth in the nonprofit world by completing a post-graduate fellowship at the Center for Law and Justice, which pushed for criminal justice reform in the Capital Region through intensive grassroots organizing in Albany’s South End and Arbor Hill. This included reviving a historically Black, independent newspaper and co-authoring a community survey that revealed the public’s feelings towards racist policing in 2019. When not involved with social justice issues and platforming marginalized groups, Mia can be found adding new recipes to her Instagram and hiking any peak in a 100-mile radius.
