Reconnect and Recharge: NYSCAA & NYSWDA's Annual Conference

call for proposals for workshop presentations

Deadline: October 2, 2020

The New York State Community Action Association (NYSCAA) strengthens the capacity of the Community Action network to address the causes and conditions of poverty. As the membership association for the forty-eight Community Action Agencies (CAA) in NY, NYSCAA provides professional development opportunities, technical assistance, and resources to enhance the capacity of agencies to serve as effective, responsive community resources. CAAs are federally designated as the frontline resource for people living in poverty, providing direct services and support for education, employment and family support services for families with low-incomes. In addition to the direct services they provide CAAs are leaders in promoting community economic development through community partnerships and inter-agency collaborations.

The Conference
NYSCAA will be hosting a virtual conference in partnership with the New York State Weatherization Directors Association (NYSWDA) December 1, 3 & 8, 2020. The conference will include sessions focusing on issues related to poverty and will provide an opportunity to engage in a dialogue about poverty and potential strategies for moving families toward greater economic security. There will also be an additional sessions focusing on providing professional development to Community Action Agency staff in all levels and departments.

NYSCAA is seeking proposals for workshop presentations that focus on developing the knowledge, expertise and capacity needed by CAA staff.  Preference will be given to presentations that are interactive, include strategies to engage the audience, and leave participants with new skills and knowledge they can immediately put to use with their customers.

For this conference, NYSCAA is particularly interested in topics in the following areas, but we are open to reviewing workshop proposals in other areas.

  • Collective Impact (Community Level Work)
  • The Factors that Impact People in Poverty
  • Trauma Informed Care
  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion
