The 2026 Community Action Awards are an opportunity to lift up the personal stories, leadership, collaboration, innovation, and lasting change happening throughout New York’s Community Action Network.

Start With the Story You Want to Recognize

The two award categories are intentionally different. One focuses on a participant or customer’s personal achievement. The other focuses on broader impact, leadership, innovation, and lasting change within the Community Action Network.

Personal Achievement Award

Is this about a participant or customer’s personal journey?

Use this award when the nomination is about a current or former Community Action participant or customer who has achieved significant personal accomplishments and shown perseverance despite obstacles.

Important: This award is not intended for staff persons. The awardee will be reimbursed up to $300 for expenses related to attending the conference to accept their award, compliments of NYSCAA.

Impact Award

Is this about leadership, innovation, or lasting change?

Use this award when the nomination is about an individual, agency, or department whose work created meaningful change through leadership, collaboration, innovation, learning, or expanded opportunity.

Eligibility: Individual nominees must be employed for a minimum of three years by a Community Action Agency.

Help Reviewers Understand the Full Story

A strong nomination does more than name a person or program. It explains why the nominee matters, what changed because of them, and how their story reflects the values and purpose of Community Action.

Tell the Story

Share the nominee’s journey, challenge, achievement, leadership, or contribution in a way reviewers can clearly understand.

Show the Impact

Include outcomes, improvements, partnerships, personal milestones, or meaningful changes that resulted from the nominee’s efforts.

Connect to Community Action

Explain how the nominee reflects perseverance, opportunity, connection, service, leadership, or community-centered work.

Add Support

Letters, quotes, examples, stories, or supporting documentation can help strengthen the nomination.
